EGR Valve Operation

The purpose of the EGR Valve used on both petrol and diesel engines is to reduce the amount of Nitrogen Oxides that exit the exhaust from the combustion process. On modern vehicles the EGR Valve is controller by the ECU. The main cause of EGR Valve failure is the buildup of carbon deposits in the valve. Diesel engines are more prone to EGR Valve failures due to this reason.
