Cam Shaft Sensors, what are they for.?

The engine control unit uses the Cam Sensor to determine the position of the cam shafts so that it can correctly operate things like direct fire ignition coils, variable cam timing actuators and sequential fuel injection. Cam Sensors are also used in conjunction with the crank sensor to ensure that the engine timing belt or chain has not slipped which could cause severe damage to the engine.
